DAVID DARBYSHIRE:

Owner of DASI Solutions LLC in Pontiac. Founded in 1995, DASI Solutions assists companies in the implementation of CAD, CAE, and PDM collaborative technologies used in the product development process. DASI Solutions offers software products integrated with Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks, ePDM, 3D Via, Electrical and Simulation, and DraftSight. DASI Studios is a Stratasys Ltd. agent for Fortus, Dimension, Objet DeskTop, Eden, and Connex along with the MakerBot line of 3D printers for rapid product development and additive manufacturing technologies. In the past year, the company moved to a larger headquarters in downtown Pontiac and expanded to a new office in Cleveland. In 2014, DASI Solutions was honored as one of Michigan’s 50 Companies to Watch. Darbyshire leads market development and is the company spokesman. He is actively involved in Automation Alley, Michigan Design Educators Association, Michigan Industrial and Technology Education Society, Jackson Area Manufacturers Association, National Defense Industrial Association, Capital Area Manufacturing Council, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and other regional growth organizations. Darbyshire was named Automation Alley’s Member of the Year in September 2007 for his continued commitment to education, in part for the planning of Superhighway to Success, a daylong event that allowed 10,000 high school students to explore careers in Michigan’s emerging sectors. He has served on the Automation Alley board of directors and remains active in various workforce development programs. Darbyshire earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Lawrence Technological University.

MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSONS: “Mike Fitzpatrick, president of Fitzpatrick Manufacturing, has been a 30–year mentor through our active involvement in the Phi Kappa Upsilon Fraternity Alumni Association at Lawrence Technological University. Mike has taught me how the value of true friendship balanced with purposeful business activities can create a lifetime of enjoyment.”

WHERE MY FIELD/INDUSTRY IS HEADED: “The designing engineer has returned to being an in–demand professional after years of change and turmoil related to the economic downturn. This valuable career pathway is now recognized as needing to be nurtured over time, starting at a young age with science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs in school. The established workforce must focus on continuing their advanced technical training and certification all through their careers to remain relevant and of value to the industries they serve.”

FAVORITE TECHNOLOGICAL GADGET: “Being gadget adverse, I like being with people as they share their passion for their next technology discovery, such as with FIRST Robotics or 3D printers.”

FAVORITE PLACE: “Mackinac Island is where I return annually to celebrate my marriage with family and friends, and ‘Darbyville’ where friends and family get together each summer.”

FAVORITE HOBBIES: “Boating, skiing, vacations, and being in the outdoors.”
