DASI Solutions Features Objet 3D Printing at Design-2-Part Show

Pontiac, Michigan (June 6, 2011) – American contract manufacturing will be the focus at the Greater Cincinnati Design-2-Part (D2P) Show, June 14 & 15, 2011 at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, KY. This event is one of 12 annual D2P Shows that are held in major manufacturing hubs throughout the United States featuring nearly 150 exhibiting companies.

DASI Solutions (Booth #333) will be exhibiting Objet Technologies line of 3D printers used for rapid product development, industrial design and additive manufacturing. The Connex, Eden and Desktop product lines offer state of the art PolyJet technologies which provide high resolution, smooth surface and fine details created in an office friendly environment. "With the Objet24, you can get the quality of SLA prototypes with the convenience of the desktop at a low cost," said Val Townsend of DASI Solutions. "Objet Geometries also recently added three new advanced materials, an ABS-like digital material, a clear transparent material, and Objet's VeroWhitePlus. These new additions brings a total of 65 Objet 3D printing material for a wide range of rapid prototyping purposes from realistic visualization to advanced functional verification."

Show hours are 9:30-3:00 on Wednesday, June 14-15. Attendance is free to qualified industry personnel. For more information about the Covington Design-2-Part Show or to register for free show admission, please visitwww.d2p.com/KY.

About Design-2-Part Shows
Design-2-Part Shows are America's largest and longest running contract manufacturing shows for the sourcing of custom parts, components, services and design. Regional tradeshows covering the USA provide OEMs the opportunity to meet local and national job shops and contract manufacturers face-to-face to find new suppliers, learn new technologies, compare processes, and reduce manufacturing costs.

DASI Solutions grows with rapid prototyping machines, adding staff

DASI Solutions got its start with engineering software work for automotive companies 15 years ago.

Today the Pontiac-based company has diversified not only its own client base in that area, but also its offerings. It recently began selling a rapid prototyping machine from Israel-based Objet that creates 3-D prototypes in a matter of hours instead of the standard weeks-long timeline. The new offering allowed DASI Solutions to take on a number of new clients, such as Stryker and Rousch Racing.

"The flood gates opened at the end of this last year," says David Darbyshire, engineer and partner of DASI Solutions. "We sold $2 million of these machines. We normally do $6 million in business." The machines retail for between $20,000 and $250,000 apiece.

The company now has 28 employees, two independent contractors, and an intern after hiring four people in the last year. It expects to add two more jobs by this summer to keep up with demand for its services. Expanding into the prototyping field has the added advantage of finding new customers in different sectors it wouldn't normally come into contact with.

"It's fun," Darbyshire says. "It makes me feel like an entrepreneur again."

DS SolidWorks Corp. Sells Millionth Education License

Students around the World Jump-Start Engineering Careers with Intuitive 3D CAD Software

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, USA, Jan. 26, 2011 – Dassault Systèmes (DS) SolidWorks Corp. today announced that one million SolidWorks® design software licenses have been purchased by educational institutions. Many millions of students at these institutions have fuelled their studies in science, technology, engineering, and math, and gone on to obtain rewarding careers in the design and engineering community.

The roster of premier institutions using SolidWorks spans all continents and includes: MIT (USA)Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (India)Politecnico di Torino (Italy)Tokyo Metropolitan Rokugou Technical High School (Japan)Universidad del Valle de Mexico (Mexico)University of Cambridge (UK),RENATESENTERET(Norway)Tsinghua University (China)University of Manitoba (Canada)University of South Australia (Australia)The University of Applied Sciences Stralsund (Germany), and Lycée Technique Privé Saint Etienne (France).

"We want our students learning and applying science and engineering, not struggling with unnecessarily complex software,” said industrial engineering professor Andrés-Amador García Granada, Ph.D., of the IQS-URL engineering university in Barcelona. "SolidWorks gives students all the capabilities a professional engineer needs – including uniquely integrated Simulation software that we use to teach statics, dynamics, thermal problems, elasticity, and fluid-dynamics – in the most intuitive package available. As a result, students start learning sooner, learn more over time, and graduate better prepared for their careers. At IQS, 70 out of 150 students obtained a Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) certification as a common requirement to start working on a final-year project for industry."

Many students combine their learning with competition. "SolidWorks helps us continuously refine our 'Thunderstruck' robot’s design for the Battlebots IQ competition, blending the best of offense, defense, weight, material strength, and sheer destructiveness,” said Senai Andai, 20, a junior-year mechanical engineering student at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). “The integrated SolidWorks Simulation software and intuitive user interface help us apply classroom theory to hands-on design, manufacturing, and 'field testing.' This is invaluable preparation for our futures as engineers."

DS SolidWorks backs up its software with rich educational resources, including:

"Our software is packed with all the sophisticated capabilities that professional engineers use," said Marie Planchard, director of world education markets for DS SolidWorks. "We think it’s important that students have easy access to these capabilities so they can bring the advantage of experience to their internships and entry-level positions."

DS SolidWorks’ contribution to engineering education also includes a long list of sponsorships. One recipient isAssabet Valley (Mass.) Regional Technical High School, featured in the latest episode of the DS SolidWorks Web-based reality show, Let’s Go Design. Students there are gearing up for competition in the National Robotics League using a robot they not only designed and assembled, but for which they machined the parts.

Rapidly evolving student skills like these have yielded sophisticated and sometimes astonishing designs, including this orange juice glass, this butterfly, and other cool products.
