DASI Solutions to Host Apprenticeship Open House

Event is part of first annual National Apprenticeship Week

PONTIAC, MI, October 30, 2015 – DASI Solutions, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor, announced that they will host an Apprenticeship Open House event on November 6, 2015 at their Downtown Pontiac Headquarters as part of the first annual National Apprenticeship Week.

The event will feature a presentation about DASI’s successful Apprenticeship program, as well as a facility tour where attendees can get a first-hand look at their SOLIDWORKS training lab and their state of the art Stratasys 3D printing studio.  Following the tour, attendees will hear from a special guest speaker from the US Department of Labor on the importance of Apprenticeships and the movement that is currently sweeping the nation.

Apprenticeship is an “earn and learn” training model that combines work-based learning with related classroom instruction using the highest industry standards. According to Dave Jackson, companies that offer Apprenticeship programs can diversify their workforce, improve productivity and profitability, standardize training, reduce turnover, receive tax credits and more. “While 75 years ago, the apprenticeship system began in construction and other skilled trades, today there are apprenticeships in more than 1,000 occupations, including careers in healthcare, IT, energy and more,” said Dave Jackson, Apprenticeship USA and Department of Labor Representative. “The goal of the National Apprenticeship Week and open house events like this one is to educate businesses and leaders about the importance of Apprenticeship programs. These programs can lead to great jobs that also help positively impact our economy.”

The U.S. currently has approximately 375,000 apprentices working with more than 150,000 employers. Last year, President Obama established a goal of doubling the number of Apprenticeship within five years. The inaugural National Apprenticeship Week is one of several initiatives helping achieve that goal.

About National Apprenticeship Week: National Apprenticeship Week is an opportunity for the Apprenticeship community to tell the story of apprenticeships and is an invitation to business and industry, education, career seekers, community based organizations, students, and workers to learn about the real world advantages of developing careers through adoption of the apprenticeship model. Apprenticeship is for those who aspire to be great, lead in innovation and creativity, strive to innovate in business and industry, and recognize the value of combining paid on the job learning coupled with a substantial educational component to build generational greatness in careers and commerce.

DASI Solutions to Host Manufacturing Day at Pontiac Facility

Engineering company opens doors to future generations of innovators

PONTIAC, MI, September 21, 2015 – During the recession that occurred back in 2008, Michigan’s employment in manufacturing hit rock bottom with only an estimated 440,000 individuals employed in the industry. Today, several years later, the rebound and steady incline of employment (to roughly 598,000) is causing concern that with the current rate of employees reaching retirement there will not be enough young people to replace these roles in the workforce. In recent years, all across the nation, business leaders, workforce development organizations, and economic agencies have been working together to inspire and encourage the youth of America to enter into careers of both engineering and manufacturing. The year 2012 was an exciting one; National Manufacturing Day was born, a day dedicated to the growth and prosperity of the future workforce, and the industry as a whole.

This will be DASI Solutions’ 2nd year participating in the ever growing event. Like the rest of the participants, they will open their doors on October 2nd and welcome in busloads of students from surrounding schools. The day will consist of a facility tours, presentations and demonstrations on leading edge CAD technology, hands on exercises, and a chance to get up close and personal with additive manufacturing in their state-of-the-art 3D Printing Studio. Students will get to see firsthand the types of careers that will be available to them upon graduation.  “My company looks forward to MFG Day every year” said Co-Owner David Darbyshire, “We hope to inspire and empower the young minds of the next generation to follow career paths in the engineering and manufacturing community, and become the future generation of great innovators for new and future technologies.”

With the hope that these industries will flourish and evolve, communities across the United States are ramping up their efforts to make this year’s Manufacturing Day a greater success than years past! With a growing number of events this year (over 117 in Michigan and over 1,495 nationwide), this collaborative is well on its way to being the cornerstone of a thriving and prosperous workforce that is key in the revitalization of the skilled labor shortage that is upon us.

DASI Solutions Nominated for Educational Initiative Award

Pontiac-Based Engineering Technology Company is an Award Finalist for Automation Alley's 15th Annual Awards Gala

PONTIAC, MI, September 9, 2015 – DASI Solutions is one of three organizations being recognized this year for their STEM outreach initiative(s), which are designed to help train and encourage our present and future workforce in new and emerging technologies. Their nomination stems from their recently launched Industrial Design Technician Apprenticeship Program that is registered with the US Department of Labor and addresses the current shortage of Designing Engineers needed in today’s economy.

Serving Southeast Michigan since 1999, Automation Alley has been a dedicated accelerator for business and economic growth with an expanding membership of roughly 1,000 partners including educational institutions, government entities, and nonprofit organizations large and small. Yearly, they hold an Awards Gala to honor the individuals and organizations that are leading innovators and have demonstrated their drive to be a catalyst for growth and change in the region’s technology sector. Awards night is a celebration of standout leaders and inspired thinkers; it is a night of honorable mentions and recognition. Attendees from across the region will come together on October 2nd as a collective community, congratulating neighbors and business partners on their creative achievements. The night is filled with fun and friendly networking, gourmet food, and live entertainment that will surely make this year’s event the best yet!

The Outstanding Educational Initiative Award, which DASI Solutions is a finalist for, is awarded for a STEM focused initiative that has gone above and beyond the current mold. The Industrial Design Technician Apprenticeship Program provides specialized training through DASI/SOLIDWORKS that will not only connect employers with the next generation of skilled workers, but also allow a re-set of skills for those looking to get back into careers as a Designing Engineer. “It has been an honor and a pleasure to work with the team at Automation Alley over all these years supporting the efforts to connect Education, Business and Government for regional growth and better living,” said David Darbyshire, co-founder of DASI Solutions. “It gives me great pride to accept this nomination! I believe this program will help address the workforce development needs of the engineering and manufacturing community left from the recent recession. Our goal is to help drive the growth of our current and future workforce in the manufacturing and engineering communities.”
